Just a few days ago, Google claimed that it will cease cooperating with Chinese censorship of Google.cn and might withdraw from China. As the article has mentioned that, China, which is called as world’s manufacturer, is highly developing these years by using globe technology and resources. However, it seems like that the level of openness in China cannot match with its prosperity and development. Since YouTube, Twitter and Facebook are all blocked, Google.cn becomes the next sacrifice of the war between censorship and human rights,
In my opinion, I think everyone has the freedom of speech, but the freedom does not mean one can say everything he likes through the internet. This is way we should have censorship to control the internet. On the one hand, we need the censorship; on the other hand, the censorship in China has blocked so many foreign websites, such as YouTube and Facebook. I think the problem occurs because there is no strict criterion to judge whether the website should be shown or not. From my own perspective, the government should ask the people to set the correct criterion. “The people” contains not only the netizens, but all citizens in this society.
All in all, there is no winner between Google and China. For Google, it loses the biggest market around the world, for China, she loses the trust of its people, so both of them should take a seat and give a solution to this problem to avoid it from happening again.

You made a good summary. You explained what was going on clearly, and listed out some facts.
ReplyDeleteWhat I appreciate most is your opinion. Your view is very objective. You judged this problem from both chinese goverment and google company.
On the other hand, you also analyse why this problem comes out.
All in all , it is a good reflection.

I don't think Chinese goverment would lose the trust of its people. What Chinese goverment has done was to maintain state security and social stability, and there is no evidence that the email accounts of Chinese human rights activists was attacked by Chinese goverment. I think this is only an excuse from Google and the real reason is its business failure in China.
ReplyDeleteHowever, many foreigners have false impressions of China and Chinese goverment, due to many untrue reports intentionally made by foreign media. Network, the most effective information meia, can improve China's burgeoning global influence and let people of the world know the real China better. If China blocks those global websites like YouTube, Facebook and Twitter, how can foreigners communicate with Chinese people and learn the real national situation of China? By logging on Chinese websites with unintelligible characters?
I agree with you peter . Everyone has freedom to talk and show their opinions . Censorship doesn’t mean people do not have freedom of speech . It is actually an effective and proper way to protect the legal right of people . In other word , It is also the rule which exactly promote and protect the function of freedom . Besides, the reason why Chinese government support censorship system could also be consider as cultural effect . The western country is much more open in some aspects than eastern country . From my perspective , I think the Google should respect the decision of Chinese government and try to figure out an appropriate strategy for Chinese market .
